HARRISON PARK GOLF COURSE

The City of Danville is located in east-central Illinois along the Illinois-Indiana border.  Danville has a population of over 33,000 citizens and serves as the County seat with over 83,000 residents in Vermilion County.  Danville is served by major interstate(s) and within a few hours driving distance to some of the hottest destinations in the Midwest, including Chicago, Indianapolis, and St. Louis.

The City of Danville owns and operates Harrison Park Golf Course as a public recreational facility.  It began in 1929, when Mr. and Mrs. John Higgins Harrison, part owner and editor of the Commercial News, purchased land from the Danville Country Club, and donated it to the City of Danville for the amount of $1.00 in the memory of his mother Minta. It wasn't until February 13, 1940, that Harrison Park was annexed to the city. Under its current name, 82 years of golf have been played, and the course has seen extensive restructuring over the years. Initially Harrison Park was a 9-hole facility, and now boasts an 18-hole, par 71 course. Several holes have been moved, replaced, shortened, or lengthened, but the original front nine has mostly remained unchanged.

Another quality which hasn't changed is the beautiful setting in which the course is located. The North Fork of the Vermilion River winds through the course and the various hills provide a backdrop unlike any other golf course in the Central Illinois region. With a total of 235 acres of land, it offers several amenities (bird watching, fishing, and hiking) but golf exceeds all of them for visits to the site.

In the last several years, Harrison Park has received the addition of a new irrigation system, new asphalt cart-paths, several feature improvements and an equipment maintenance program, giving it the potential to be one of the highest quality public golf courses in the area.

Several projects are anticipated in the short and long term plans for course improvements. These projects include the installation of fairway bunkers on approximately 8 holes, the addition of more low-maintenance native areas, an aggressive tree installation and maintenance program, and the installation of new championship tees.

The City of Danville and Harrison Park Management Team have made considerable strides in recent years to improve the golf course's playability and beauty, and as a partner, we will continue to do our best to maintain that tradition.  Harrison Park Golf Course and Clubhouse have experienced more than 82 years of joy-filled memories, and we expect to carry on that mission for many generations to come.

Please come and experience this beauty with us and let us know your thoughts.
